You might be worried about something when coming to Japan for the first time. Most people may not understand English. Some aren’t good at talking to foreigners. However, you don’t need to worry. Here are some useful phrases that can be used if you get lost.



Useful Phrases when you’re lost

 

①Michi-ni-mayotte-imasu

(I ‘m lost)

It is not a question but people will help you when you say it.

 

②Koko-wa-doko-desuka

(Where am I or are we?)

It is a problem if you don’t know where you are. Important to know where you are

 

③Kono-jyusho-wa-dokoka-wakari-masuka

(Do you know the address?)

You can use the phrase when you’re looking for somewhere and you have the address.

For example, you can say kono-hoteru (this hotel) -wa- dokoka-wakari-masuka.

 

④Koko-kara-ichiban-chikai-eki-wa-doko-desuka

(Which station is the nearest station from here)

You can use the phrase when you just want to go to a station.

 

⑤Eki-madeno-ikikata-o-osiete-kudasai

(Would you tell me how to get the station?)

You should add kudasai at the end of sentence when you ask something people.

It is a polite way.

 

⑥Koko-kara-ekimade-dorekurai-kakari-masuka

(How long does it take from here to the station?)

It is important to know time schedule. You can also use it even though you are not lost.

 

⑦Takushi-wa-dokode-tukamaeru-kotoga-deki-masuka

(Where can I get a taxi?)

If you are just tired of walking, you can say it. Even now in Japan, Uber is not common.
