Oirase Gorge in Aomori, Feel the flow.

Oirase stream is a part of the Okaze river flowing in eastern Aomori Prefecture. It follows 14 kilometers from the sunken mouth of the Towada Lake shore to the mountains. On the banks of the stream you can find both maple and beech forest. It belongs to Towada Hachimantai National Park and is known as a scenic spot.




2 Things To Do at Oirase Gorge

①See the Stream

The place in this picture is called “flow of Asura”, it is the most popular place in Oirase stream.  “Asura” is the guardian of Buddhism. The flow of water full of dynamism crashes into the giant moss covered rocks, creating a masculine landscape that is one of the best in the valley.

 

②Enjoy the Waterfall

There are many impressive waterfalls. One of them called the Choshi Otaki is magnificent. Although it isn’t the largest of waterfalls, it’s powerful water pressure make it outstanding.

 

 

The Face of Automn

Autumn leaves start falling from the middle of October, and you can enjoy seeing the carpet of color until early November in the vicinity of Yakeyama on the downstream. You can see the color of the forest such as beech, maple, Yamamameji, wigwort and zelkova.
