Who is Marie Kondo
Marie Kondo is a Japanese consultant specializing in tidying up. she currently lives in the USA. She is also called by her nickname Konmari. In 2015, she was chosen as one of the “100 most influential people” in US TIME magazine.
After working as an employee for a few years, in 2010 she published a book on tidying up. After this, she became a big hit in Japan and her name is now well known. Her book has been translated all over the world and is being read in many countries. In 2019, she appeared in a Netflix show where she uses her tidying skills to help others.
Her love of tidying started in early childhood, when she would clean her family home and even her friend’s houses. Her mother told her that she was an obsessive tidier.
What is the KonMari Method?
According to Konmari, there are a few rules on how to clean up. The most important thing is “Tokimeki” (spark joy).
What is “Tokimeki”? It is when something that you see or touch brings you happiness, or sparks joy.
Let’s take a closer look at how to tidy up in this way.
Gather Everything
First of all, you need to put everything in one place. Clothing, bags, books, everything! This is so that you can assess how much you actually own.
You then need to start with clothes and make your way down the categories, determining what makes you happy (feel Tokimaeki) and what doesn’t. If you are unsure then it probably doesn’t spark joy.
Then, give away the items that you no longer need without feeling guilty. Giving your things away with appreciation for them is different from just throwing away.
Organize
Finally, let’s clean up what is left. Then you only have the things that you really need and that spark joy.
It is recommended that you do it in these short periods.
Let’s feel “Tokimeki” by KonMari Method! !
