Are there still Samurai in Japan ?

SAMURAI

Samurai was a person who once served the Japanese nobility. The origin of the word comes from the verb “Saburau”, which means to serve someone.

“Samurai” is often confused with the word “Bushi”. What is the difference between them?  “Bushi” means “a person holding weapons and exercising force”. It has nothing to do with serving someone. Samurai also had weapons, so they are used like synonyms. Even most Japanese actually do not know the difference between them.

Can we still see Samurai in Japan?

Unfortunately in this era, neither Samurai nor Bushi remain in Japan. One reason is that we are prohibited from having weapons. Moreover, there are no nobles in modern Japanese society. However, we can still see the weapons and armor they used, many of which are on display at the Samurai Museum.
